The internet hosting provider Parallels released information today that it will be providing the ability for service providers to become APS certified. APS stands for the Application Packaging Standard certification service and is adminstered by Tier 1 Research.

Based on achieving this certification, service providers will be acknowledged as following APS compliance, with either an APS Gold or Silver designation. The certification recognizes SaaS application providers using this designation.

According to Serguei Beloussov, CEO, “Parallels wants service providers to be able to easily deliver a broad range of software applications to their customers with the assurance that those applications will be up-to-date, integrate and perform as expected. The APS Certification Service offers service providers an opportunity to differentiate themselves in the market as they strive to meet the growing needs of their customers,” he stated.

The two-day, free event will in addition feature themes such as ‘green’ hosting, virtualization and open platform. Parallels customers, partners and additional industry participants from around the world will congregate at Parallels Summit 2008, held on May 19 to 20 at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, DC.

The company says this year’s event will feature keynotes by industry leaders and innovators, including comprehensive product, strategy and networking sessions for business and technical professionals.

Parallels permitted Struktur to convert its downloadable conferencing solution, spreed, into a service application, Web hosting software provider Parallels announced on Wednesday.

With the ability to securely operate on any server, Parallels Virtuozzo Containers use the application packaging standard to deliver the spreed conferencing software as a virtual appliance. Up to that time, a spreed user had to download, install and then configure the software to run on their computer, says the company.

Originally available in August 2006, the solution was transformed to a virtual appliance in September 2007 and at present it is used by more than 100,000 users to talk, share and view files including video, in addition to typing chat messages.

Serguei Beloussov, CEO of Parallels stated “Parallels Virtuozzo virtualization technology combined with our automation software provides the ideal SaaS platform for spreed and other applications that can be delivered as a Web-based service. The spreed solution is another example of how our open platform and the APS standard are driving real business results for our customers.”

Earlier this week, Parallels, previously known as SWsoft, released the latest version of its container-based server virtualization software, Parallels Virtuozzo Containers.
