Worldpay vs Paypal

When I first set-up online payment processing, I choose Worldpay as my first option, as it seemed a more trustworthy name.

Nowadays I'm not keen on Worldpay's costs and remittance period, and find Paypal the much prefered payment processor option.

I've heard people have real problems with Paypal but I've not experienced any myself.

Its hard not to find a webmaster forum with Paypal horror stories. I'd be wary using them as my sole processor in case something went wrong.

I think for a new webmaster who is just starting out PayPal is by far the better option as it is a lot easier and a lot cheaper to get off the ground.

I have looked at worldpay myself but it does look expensive but I guess the advantage that worldpay has is that it makes your business look more professional to the average web user.

I do agree that one has to be careful with paypal though as some of their terms and conditions and policies are dubious to say the least.

In my opinion having one major gateway, i.e. authorize.net and then paypal should suffice. I don't know if giving a lot of options will be beneficial, IMO it will just make the customer more confused.

I have yet to have problems with paypal and I do like the fact that they charge less per transaction then other major gateways.

I have heard that Worldpay hang onto your money for quite a while (weeks?) which is a bit worrying... I have had a few clients switch from using WorldPay to Protx recently - maybe worth looking at???

Palpal is a great solution - both for start-ups and established businesses, one of the reason is that people like to use their paypal accounts instead of having to transfer the money out (5 days) and then use their debit cards...

Wordpay do hold onto your money - the "remittance" period, which is typically around 4-6 weeks.

It's another feather in the cap of Paypal that they do everything directly.

Another anoying thing about Wordpay is that if you change your business card (ie, the old one is replaced with a new one) then as a customer, you have to update every single Worldpay subscription one-by-one. With Paypal, you simply change your card details in your admin, and everything updates automatically.

Worldpay used to benefit from a bigger perception of trust, but I think as someone who uses both as a business and customer, Paypal is very much my favourite, and Worldpay have some catching up to do.

Also - another point worth mentioning is integration - Paypal are seamless, but Worldpay can be a total pain.

If you're dealing in the UK, then look at nochex.com they have an IPN like PayPal, accept debit and credit card and have chargeback protection.

I've been using Paypal simply because of how widely used it is - despite it's poor reputation throughout the web I've never had a problem with it.

WP is more expensive on their annual fee, they might require one or two month of reserve fund from your monthly turnover, no doubt they are reliable company. Alternatively you can check with prevailing charges of ChronoPay, EU based reputed and reliable processor, there charges are quite affordable they are providing excellent service and 24x7 support.

I have quick look at chronopay, they seems quite promising, I hope they deal with high risk too.

How do you mean high risk? You mean risks in trading/receiving payments?

I just could not manage if I had to float my revenue for 6 weeks while they muck around with it.

I use paypal. Where I do business everyone uses paypal and nothing else. If the order is very large I usually request a money order depending on how far away they live from me.

How about MoneyBookers? Seems to look fine to me when their office is in london. Quite tight to get their business account activated and they make sure you have the right document. I think this is a pretty safe feature to ensure the right person using the system.

Nonetheless, Paypal has been a great option when there are just more and more people with a paypal account. Works well for me for my clients in Asia Pacific, EMEA and US. All payment processors have their fair share of horror stories. Try read anything about 2checkout. Lots of them and yet lots of people using them. Worldpay has its own share of bad news.

Try it small and establish a 'relationship' with any of these companies along the way. It works out the same logic as if you make a relationship with a bank.

I ahve heard of Moneybookers but have not tried them out. Are they any good and what is the transaction fees like? I am really interested because more people are starting to use moneybookers.
