Welcome to findfreehosting.

Interesting new post. Just wonder whether you are anywhere affiliated to them.

Their offer is just too good to be true with $9.24/year? => less that $1/month?

Probably drop us a review on them.
Do they use Cpanel or?

Hello, I am affiliated to them only in that i have some sites hosted with them. and love the services they provide.

They offer a custom control panel which has many of the same features of cpanel with out many of security problems. I have used cpanel and allthough it is nice, the security holes in it are not worth the constant patching and downtime imo!

As far as it being to good to be true. I thought so to a few months ago, but have signed up over 20 people with them so far for a varitiy of types of sites and all are happy.

Tech support questions are answered pretty quickly most have been within 5 hours some took 24, and i just noticed today there is a beta live chat window in the control panel now. Support for dedicated servers via telephone is provided.

Services are slit up between clusters of machines to reduce load. For Example MYSQL is on its own cluster of boxes. Web, email on their own etc. Makes it take a little longer to add databases or email accounts etc. but is so much better when your sites getting heavy traffic or theres an os security patch needed. Not everything needs to be rebooted at once. IE you keep your email as updates are done to other services.

One of the sites i have hosted there does alot of streaming video and audio using the built in quicktime streaming server and has had great success with it. You can stream mpg 4 streams smoothly to dial up cable or dsl connections with it, and since it is on a seperate box from your webserver the increased bandwith does not slow your main site down.

Ive had 60+ meg files up for download on another site hosted with them and done 10gig+traffic a day for a few days in a row, and had no problems or notices.

Even if you do choose to cancel or change service, you fully own the domain name you get and you have 97 days to get a refund for any reason.

As far as worrying about them closing down anytime soon here is a BIO from their page:

We at DreamHost have been happily hosting our clients' dreams (and websites) since April 1997 - close to a century ago in Internet years! That was when we (four Computer Science undergraduates at hmc.edu in Claremont, CA) launched this company with no capital apart from a single Pentium 100 web server (Destro was her name), using shared bandwidth on a T1 line that a friend gave us at no cost.

By necessity we had to be frugal, but even with our less than ample resources we always did our best to provide a quality service at a reasonable price. Those early days quickly taught us the technical expertise and market savvy necessary to survive in our industry, as well as teaching us to respect each and every customer's wishes, dealing with them as though they were our friends. Hey, most of them were!

It's hard to believe that we've already grown to over 300 servers (each with over 40 times the processing power of Destro), a state of the art data center, and a full time staff of 25. Even though we now average more new customers per day than signed up total in our first three months of business, we've always made it our number one priority to deal with every client as a human being and as a friend. We like to think that that, more than anything else, is the real reason for our current success.

Now hosting over 60,000 web sites, we've definitely come a long way since 1997. But we can see there's still a long road in front of us. We don't know exactly where it will lead; all we know is that the trip will be fun, and we wish you'd come with us!

These guys have been around since the start of the hosting boom, and have made their own control panel that really works great, i love em.

Any other questions let me know!
thanks
