Default UnitedHosting

Another host I had generally good experiences with - United Hosting.

A well established company, UnitedHosting are one of few webhosting companies to have kept a consistently good reputation throughout their years of trading, and especially for customer care.

Although the company itself is based in the UK, they built themselves up leasing servers in their own racks at one of the newer EV1 datacenters, and have since expanded to also offer UK-based hosting via their own racks in Redbus III, in London.

Despite being a well-established company, UnitedHosting remain a very reasonably reasonably priced company and offer very competitive rates while still deliving on service, which is certainly a plus.

The only potential drawback to UnitedHosting is that they have always insisted on using the Ensim control panel on their servers, which some webmasters may not be comfortable with.

Other than that, the company has never really suffered any major technical problems, though a mass server move in 2004 did bring out some minor issues - which, to be honest, was only to be expected.

Overall, UnitedHosting remains a solid hosting company offering a solid service on a strong network, and with fast and responsive support, you shouldn’t really expect any problems with them.

As an aside, I just wish they'd open up to using Cpanel on their servers - I've never really been a fan of Ensim, and with there not being that many UK hosts I'm currently comfortable with, it's a genuine shame.

I agree - Ensim is a very slow and "clunky" control panel - even on UH's Dual Xeon servers it crawls...
On the PLUS side Ensim is regarded as one of the most well coded and secure control panels available...

Thanks for the positive comments guys.

While ensim is slow at times, I wouldnt want to risk offering shared hosting on a shared environment without it. Its by far the most secure panel about. Aslong as sites are served quickly and securely and with data integrity at all times, then I dont think a sluggish control panel should be a nagative thing to "live with". I wouldnt trust anything else

Forgot to mention... We're part of Ensim's beta program and I cant say much, but keep your eyes pealed and you may find some vast improvements coming to the Ensim panel. This includes some major reworking to speed things up!

Thank God for that!

Seriously though - I know Ensim has a very good security record and hat's off to you guys at UH for sticking with it

Hi Matt, and welcome to WHW.

I just noticed, too, that when I rebuilt this site as a forum, I seem to have overlooked reposting the UnitedHosting review on the forum - lukcily, Google still had a cache record, so I've edited the original post to include it.
