Default Reseller Hosting Explained

Introduction to Reseller Hosting

Reseller Hosting is a more flexible form of webhosting, specifically designed to allow the hosting of multiple websites on the same account.

And although Reseller Hosting still involves sharing space on the same server as others, there are usually few reseller accounts on a server devoted to Reseller Hosting, which means that there should usually be greater flexibility with the processor resources required.

This means that a reseller hosting plan can be the ideal place to host a number of sites together, not least to grow one or more sites that will require more resource-intensive needs, such as an e-commerce site involved in PPC.

Because it allows the hosting of multiple websites, Reseller Hosting is also an ideal way for new webhosts to start a business without incurring too many start-up costs.

What to expect from Reseller Hosting

You should expect the same level of support with a Reseller Hosting account as with a shared hosting account, with the additional point that this means support for all of your websites, rather than just for one of them.

If you use your Reseller Hosting account for hosting websites belonging to other people, then your host may also provide additional support via you for your customers. However, you will likely be expected to provide a first level of support yourself for any customers you take on board.

Advantages/Disadvantages of Reseller Hosting

Pros
  • More resources available, so demanding sites can have more room to grow
  • Host multiple websites on the same server under your own control
  • Greater control over your own websites
  • You can also point - or park - lots of domains that don’t need hosting by themselves, but are used to help direct visitors to your website
Cons
  • More expensive than shared hosting
  • Still sharing a server with other hosting accounts, which may involve websites that try and hog resources
  • You still have no control over the actual server configuration or how it is operated
  • Your website e-mail address can still be blacklisted, if other sites on the same server e-mail spam
Overall

Reseller hosting offers more resources and a more flexible environment for growing and developing more than one website, but you pay more for this.

Reseller hosting can be especially useful if you are looking to develop more than one website, or else need a lot of room to grow and develop one or two sites that need more resources than with Shared Hosting.

However, if your website requirements are particular high, even a reseller account may not be able to provide you with what you need.
