Recommended Datacenters?
Right, so i'm currently on a reseller plan and I'm looking to start my own web hosting business. I'm looking to rent a server in the US (mainly because it's cheaper) - does anybody have any recommendations? Who are you with?

Re: Recommended Datacenters?
Do you require a managed server or can you manage your own?

Re: Recommended Datacenters?
I forgot to add.. Are you 100% sure you want a US server?
Okay - They are great because of the price per Ghz BUT more and more people are realising the importance of UK hosting for SEO purposes...
It might be worth a UK server???

Re: Recommended Datacenters?
Sorry, forgot to mention that.
I can't personally manage my own server, but I'm going to pay someone I know for the first couple of months and "learn the ropes". I am going to look for one in the US as I'm going to aim (at the start, atleast) for the US market with the option of paying in sterling, and as it grows think about getting another server located in the UK.

It may take quite a bit longer than a few months to become a good enough server admin to be able to run things solo... I wish you all the luck in the world with it though - It is a very interesting subject to learn but don't be affraid of calling the professionals in to fix things!
As for targeting the US market, I would have though the exchange rate was against this, which is why USA servers are cheaper for us Brits

Re: Recommended Datacenters?
It is - I will lose more in the long run but it means lower startup capital is needed
Is there any good unmanaged servers out there then?

Re: Recommended Datacenters?
www.layeredtech.com & www.softlayer.com off the top of my head are the 2 biggies for cheap, quality unmanaged servers in the US.

Re: Recommended Datacenters?
Layeredtech.com looks pretty good value Might end up going with them actually - the cheapest server (which will do for my needs at the moment) will be $89 + $20 per month for the server and cpanel.

Re: Recommended Datacenters?
LT are good, I've been with them for about 2 years (the 1st 6 months through a reseller) and had no isssue. Beware though, this is completely unmanaged, they will do a reboot etc... but nothing else, however occasionally they may help you if the tech who gets the ticket decides to help, but don't bank on it.
Most of the "don't buy LT" threads over the various US based boards seem to be from people who can't manage a server.

Re: Recommended Datacenters?
Do LT provide hardware support as well? I'm sort of presuming they do...
