Default Liquidweb sued by Greenzap

Interesting to see Greenzap laying out a $57 million lawsuit on Liquidweb:
Platinax Small Business News » Greenzap claims it’s not a scam

I remember when Greenzap affiliates started spamming the Platinax forums - soon followed by complaints they were a scam.

Somehow I don't think Liquidweb are going to have too much to worry about here.

I was on another forum and they blocked the Greenzap bit??? not sure why. I heard on the forum that greenzap had done some dodgy things in the past.

I have a greenzap account since long ago and I have never found exactly how they work so maybe there is some of true in all what is saying about them.

Isn't GreenZap doing very well? I never bothered to check on them before because most of the members of GreenZap in one of the forums i belong have positive reviews about the program.

The man behind Greenzap is a clever person at marketing.
There's now a Greenzap auction site called ZapXExchange

I recently got a letter from a lawyer acting for a Land Banking company. It related to a comment I made in a blog calling them a scam (they are putting 1,000% markup on land that can never be built on and selling it as though it can). My hosting company presumably got the same letter and took my blog down for a couple of days but then put it back up after they got their nerve back.

The Land Banking company is part of a larger group that also runs a Ponzi scheme on the web offering 9% per day returns.

The issue from a hosting point of view is that these companies are typically making high margins ( since they have no real product and they take all the profit) and can afford an expensive lawyer to write a letter making all sorts of threats.

The letter I got required me to take my blog down, run adverts in all forms of media apologising and made me liable for unlimited damages. After panicking for a few days I got my nerve back and tossed it and the blog stayed up.

I can see from a hosting point of view its an easy life just to dump the lone voice offending comment, and take the money from the scammers.

There is nobody policing the web and the people with the expensive lawyers are winning. That's why there are now so many Ponzi and other fraudulent schemes that never get closed down until they implode. Even when something is quite clearly a fraud you can't say so without going to court.

If the hosting companies are going to be responsible for alleged defamation then at least make them equally liable for financial fraud.

Or make them liable for neither and allow uncensored comment.

On another issue: A recent practise is to make a web site look like its a global site and then actually limit access to the place where you are conducting the scam. So sites running in ASEAN show the houses of parliament and Union Jack and lots of UK government reports. If you report them to authorities in the UK they can't actually be seen from the UK. The assumption in ASEAN is if the UK allows it it must be OK.

The problem for any hosting company is that THEY are responsible for what is held on their servers - not directly, but they own the hardware so the content of the hardware is their responsibility in the end.

Most responsible host's will take down / investigate / re-instate when they recieve any complaints... It's standard practice i'm affraid.

I know that you feel frustrated that your blog was taken down for a few days whilst the hosting company looked at the case, but you have to understand that the hosting company will have ZERO knowledge of the content of your blog or the subject matter - they have received a complaint and acted on it.

Fortunately it is making the host's responsible for the content of their servers that makes things like phishing site's and child porn hard to get hosted (thank god)
