Default LiquidWeb

LiquidWeb offer a good customer-centered care over a generally consumer-friendly range of services.

Unlike many webhosts, LiquidWeb do use their own datacenter, which has been built into a strong network connection over the years.

They were the first company I leased a managed dedicated server from, and have had absolutely no real problems since. This is despite that the server hosts Threadwatch, which has seen repeated Slashdotting (sudden high traffic surges) as well as being blogrolled by Yahoo! and Ask Jeeves.

Performance has been good, and support has been responsive - on a couple of sensitive issues I was able to ring when it was the middle of the night in Chicago, and still get a friendly voice to help in their support dept.

Overall, I have no problems recommending LiquidWeb on my experiences so far, which at the time of writing is almost exactly one-year of dedicated hosting with them.

No problem, Patrick, and welcome to WHW.

I left LiquidWeb simply because I needed to host a core site on a UK server, but because of some connectivity issues with the UK server, plus the better US pricing, I'm pretty tempted to come back to LiquidWeb.

I still prefer European servers over those located in America, but prices there are unbeatable and that is often a determining factor to switch back.

I recently dropped a reseller hosting located in The Netherlands for another in Chicago with twice the bandwidth with a lower price.

US hosting is absolutely fine if your target market is the USA - and I even host a number of my .co.uk in the US as well, though my most important UK domains are always hosted in the UK.

If hosting is your only concern, then I'd generally agree with you, however if you want to take advantage of location sensitive service such as local search engines, then generally they will rank results higher if the service is hosting in the same country as the local search.

I moved a partially completed .org.uk from a US server to a UK server and although most of the information had been removed and has still not been re-added to the site, it went from a page 2 or 3 listing on Google.co.uk to a 1st page listing.

I have to agree with that. Local search engines as well as problems accessing busy websites if you are halfway across the globe...

Liquidweb prices are great - especially as when I had a dedicated server with them, I could call at 3am US time and get a problem dealt with immediately.

I've noticed that Game Hosters that also sell dedicated servers are usually cheaper then these type companies.

Just to mention I've personally gone back to Liquidweb again - there were a few set up issues (they issued the wrong sized harddrive and a few DNS issues) but once sorted, everything running fine again - as it should.
