is there like a welcome / introduce yourself forum.

Nearly every message board has these, I don't think it really builds much of a community. How much do posters actually read newbie introductions and do you learn anything from them? Not much value to me. YMMV.

General feeling here is that you'll get to know more about people as they join in the discussions and read the quality of their contribution.
