Default How do free web hosts survive?

What are their sources of income and how do they manage? Are they simply a bunch of kids pormoting a hobby or something or do they really get something in return?

That's right, they survive with ads, or if is a post to host (with the cpm or ads in the forum)

Others that give offers like that usually place a banner or a snippet of code linking to one of their site, if not, they asked the benificiary to post in their forums wherein they get some traffic for the site and earn thru the ads...

Ads are definitly the most important... some of them have you put a link to their site in your site but not all of them so that goes back to the ads again

They survive through the ads they place on your sites. If they don't place ads on your personal site, they place ads on the control panel or their home page site.

From my research, free hosts survive from
1.donations
2.ads on their sites
a.repeated ad viewing through forum posting
3.ads on users sites
(i hate it when they force ads)

And also i have also seen where a company owns a free host that survives under that company for an unknown reason. I think 5000mb is an example, they have no ads anywhere and offer ridiculous sotrage and b/w saying they are reliable because they are owned by a company

Generally, free hosts make money off of ad space that is forced on your site(s).

Some of them use ads, donations etc. But some of the managers of Free Hosting are just rich, and use some of their time to offer hosting to the world. One example is Steve Bondings, owner of Frihost.
