Default Hardware failures

The most common hardware failures I've had are harddrives - usually RAID helps ensure this doesn't become a problem with a second SCSI disk.

I have seen other hosts have problems with even their RAID arrays, though.

Which are the most common hardware problems you've experienced, and which have been the worst?

Default Re: Hardware failures

Most people don't realize manufacturers only rate their hard drives usually for only a period of 5 years ( at my type of use ), and considering my hard drive is used pretty much 24/7 i expect it to fail at some point. However, I am smart enough to back up most of my important files often enough.

My brother has had an external laptop hard drive for 4 years. He has had 4 hard drive failures. All maxtor. Luckily for him they replaced them in a flash, but the point remains, hard drives suck. Until solid state is commonplace, I think that people will always have hard drive problems.

Think about how irrational it is for people to store so much important information on little machines that have moving parts and are prone to failure. They just kind of put this blind trust in hard drives that just shouldnt be there.

definitely HDs.

What kind of RAIDs are people using to ensure redundancy?
