Default Game Host

Hi all

Is there anyone here who can infrom me of everthing required to be a game host. Me and a few friends are gamers and in our own clan and we have problems finding a good game host.

Can someone tell me what sort of things are required to be a game host, say how many games can run per server (naturally game dependant) -I need info on the general setup, of getting the game onto a server, general stuff.

Tell me everything you know lol

Fast servers, not your average web hosting server. Fast networks.

As you say the number of games per server depends on the game, some have different settings per game which also impact the number of players you can have.

You also need very quick hands on support at all hours of the day to respond to those who have a problem and may need resolution (button pressed / reboot etc...)

Unless you have your own racks in a DC not too far away, I'd seriously consider going with a specialist provider.

My friend had one in his house and it went well. To address the issues above, the server was only "open" while he was at home, which was no biggie, since he played with an exclusive circle of friends, and they all played together.

Obviously a datacenter with atleast 20MB/s connection. Static IP's. Voice servers. Web Hosting and other little thigns that can come later like auto-AMX installation.

My friend ran a good server but his connection was a simple Bright House home cable connection.

The request was to be a game host, hence the replies reagrding quality of staff in the DC etc...

To run your own private server for your mates, then a home cable connection may be OK, if you're selling service to the public as hinted at in the original post, then you need to do it properly.

Yeh, i was just toying with the idea, as i said above there isn't really a good cheap game host for the game we play - acording to one of our hosts we have used it is a resource hog. Servers would each have dedicated 100Mbps so speed wold not be a problem (based UK) where we are located, some clan members are in other countries but majority UK.

Just wanted some info on how simple uploading the game and how it would be installed as with control panels for customers. Methods of the setup and management, web hosting i'm fine with i just have a feeling game hosting may have its differences.

I'm not really into games, however there are a number of game control panels, so I would guess that these take care of the necessary setup for you.

As I understand it a game player is likely to be on-line into the early hours and will rapidly get upset if his game is unavailable, so quick support responses will be required at the usual UK quiet times for hosting support.
