I use Macromedia Studio for all my web designing job.
It has all the functions that MS frontpage cannot provide.
Though it is hard to pick the skill up, I have good fun playing the functions around.

Adobe photoshop is also a must for me to edit the photos. I have to admit that it has an edge over the photodraw by macromedia and mroe user friendly.

What about you?

notepad and photoshop for me.

don't really need anything else. since packages like dreamweaver and frontpage adds useless codes, and also doesn't support xhtml/css well enough IMO.

How do you use notepad as an html editor? Everyone says it's great but I don't know how it works. Do you just save whatever you've typed as an html file?

As you suggested, just "Save As" and then select the "Type" as All Files and enter yourpage.html as the filename.

You said, "enter yourpage.html as the filename." Do you mean for instance, if I just wrote an article titled "Questions", I would save it as questions.html as the file name? Do I need to put my website or domain name in the file?

That's correct. No domain name needed, the web browser will use that to find your server it will then ask for questions.html which the web server will located and serve up to your browser.

It sounds very easy according to your directions. I will be trying to use notepad again as an editor as soon as possible. I may learn how to do this after all. I think you're a good and patient teacher.

If you want to learn, it might be best to get a free editor so you can design, then see the code generated.

I still do most of my HTML coding by hand (often generated dynamically by PHP code) as you get far more control, however I don't use notepad, give pspad a try, it's a free download.

Dreamweaver all the way. DW 8 has helped me way from the beginning of web design and editing. It takes the work out of coding and it really helps from making mistakes.

Tools like DW are fine if you have the cash (or are prepared to use pirate software). I still prefer the manual approach though.

I use Frontpage and Dreamweaver but if I am in a hurry, I use the notepad.
It is easier to load and always available whatever PC I will use.
