A typo domain may get you some type in traffic, but will they stay if they were looking for something else? If you work hard on the content, then maybe, if not they'll simply try the type in again.

You also need to be careful with trademarks if you're looking at type in.

The actual name itself will probably have little effect - unless you have a "catchy" domain that it easy to remember... The best example of this is probably confused.com (it's even started to make it's way into the English language - "sorry mate, can you say that again... I'm a bit confused.com!")

BUT...

The age of the domain IS relevant to how the search engines view the website... You may want to look around to see if there are any domain names for sale that match what you are looking for? Make sure you find out the history of the domain though... Make sure it hasn't expired and then be renewed for one

Content will make or break a site more than a name. Branding is a technique that should not be taken lightly.

True but if you ever wonder if a domain name alone can rake in the money, just ask the people at whitehouse.com

They laughed all the way to the bank!

I don't think it really makes a difference as long as your tags collaborate some way with your site name, I think it is ok. It is more based off of your site being readable by search engines.

I think you can get some benefit of traffic from local search from specific country for ccTLD domain such as .co.uk, .us, .au etc.

IMO, your domain name does get a get amount of traffic only after you increase the web presence of that particular domain name. It also helps in SEO up to some extent.

Choosing an easy and short domain name will help traffic. People will remember your domain name and it looks better .

Since this thread was started, Google has been taking a real shine to keyword domains.

Get them, developer them, rank them, monetise them.
