You should use some caution when visiting hosting review sites. There are some sites that allow companies to pay to be listed. The reviews are not always completely accurate as their can be some bias.

Instead of going to review sites, why not use the webmasters forums. You can get a lot of information from them as they are the one who deal with webhosting all the time.

There are also another kind of hosting review sites.

Those run by webmasters who want people signup with their affiliate codes, which are just the same regarding accuracy.

I have to say I am finding that out about a lot of review sites in general. They are just pandering.

Reviews tend to be biased anyway, how many people do you know who rush out and praise their web host, if it doesn't work they complain and may do publically, if it works how many people rush out and tell people or do they just get on and use what they've paid for?

A satisfied customer may tell someone about their host in conversation (that's the best form of referral you can get ), but I doubt that they rush out looking for review sites to join

I will disagree. I come across people all over the web that talk positive about their hosting and basically plug it.

This is what I suggested, they may talk positively and respond to threads they come across askign for reccomendations or reply to "what do you think about host XYZ" threads, but do that many people rush out looking for host review sites when their host doesn't have an affiliate referral link they can plug?

Have those hosting review sites ever given a bad review? I don't think users give them any credence.

I do. I've posted all over the net how pleased I am with 1and1.com Ask Aquarian...he and I are on many sites together, I plug them all the time!

Majority of such review websites cannot be trusted simply because their credibility is always a big question mark and reviews on them can be easily manipulated/influenced.

Yes most of those review sites are PPC sites or some webmaster with the best affiliate payout plans set in place.

Who told you that web host companies don't have representatives in forums?

It's true that some web host review sites get paid to list host companies, but it's also true that there are genuine review sites out there.

To avoid falling into this trap, all that's required is careful reading of the comments to know which ones are sincere and which ones are paid for by companies. It's definitely becoming harder these days to find some quality unbiased reviews.
