Default buying domain names

At what point or under what circumstances do you think its to your advantage to buy a domain name vs. using a free one?

depends on the purpose of the site. for the low cost of most domains, I can't really see any reason for not buying a domain

I agree. GoDaddy have very cheap domain names if you buy hosting at the same time, less than the cost of a beer (where I live anyway). I currently host with GoDaddy and find them very good - thats a genuine recommendation not a plug!

Domains are available at such low prices these days that there is hardly a reason left for not buying a domain name.
