Default Best web design software

What is the best software for a 40-year old rookie like me to use to build a website? Also, is there one with online support?

What do you want to do with your site? If it's just a few pitcures and some text, then something like FrontPage will do the business. You could try the free Serif programs (can't remember the URL, you'll need to google), my 9 year old daughter can work this. Alternatively if you have MS Word, then there's a save as Web Page option on the later versions (it produces naff HTML, but it's simple to use to get started with)

If you want on-line support, then look for a forum for your selected package, if not then you'll probably have to pay for support.

Nvu is gaining more recognition as it is now closer to Dreamweaver than ever. And it is free. By the way Pete I was 40 when I started out and I am 52 now. Jump in the water's fine.

How much are you looking to spend and what are you wanting to do? There are a lot of good, reasonably priced packages out there if you don't need a lot of bells and whistles.

Beginners should avoid the bells and whistles unless they are willing to go the intensive learning route.

All excellent, and in addition, you must obtain photoshop. It is the single most important investment I made; you can do so many things with it and it is vital in creativing logos and things

Frontpage is good....but I prefer old style hand coding. I also prefer paint shop pro to photoshop.

Frontpage you surprise me. That is now discontinued. I would like to try Expressions Suite the replacement.
