Default Best OS for VPS?

Is there a best Operating System when using VPS? CentOS, Debian, Fedora Core, Suse??

Or is it simply the case with dedicated servers that it's not so much of a concern for the consumer hosting?

Simply wondered if there were any problems with VPS working on some Operating Systems?

My provider is just about to begin offering a VPS service, and they are using CentOs. I am kind of curious which is the most robust OS for a VPS service as well.

I've not seen Debian or Suse offered commercially, I'm sure there was a Xen port with Debian, however as most people seem to want cPanel, then I'd go with CentOS, Fedora seems to evolve quite fast, so may be a problem for OS updates.

Excuse me gentlemen but is VPS virtual private server? If so, what is it used for? Distributing bandwidth and resources across a server so more than one "site" can be used? Right? Wrong?

It's logically partitioning a server into 1 or more "virtual" servers, you share the CPU disk & memory. The management system will determine how much resource each "virtual" server has.

They are usually used in place of a small server, you can host web sites, run DNS, email or whatever you wish.

I really love Debian, I believe it's the best for server stuff. Been using it for over 4 years and have never run in any problems. Reliability and speed is great, it's also very easy to use.

CentOS would be my other choice, didn't like it at first, but after using it a little bit more I found it's pretty good, great competition for Debian.

CentOS is considered to be the most reliable and stable OS for VPS's.This is recommended by most of the web hosting providers as well.
