Default Best domain registrar

I posted up some reviews of Domain Name Registrars here a while back:
http://www.platinax.co.uk/37-domain-...tion-services/

I'm also about to try Moniker at the moment.

Personally, I like to spread my domains around a few different hosts - but each has different costs/benefits.

Not keen on the Enom account refill system, and can't use Gandi anymore as the VAT rules between European companies are supposed to be a nightmare.

GoDaddy has also been getting a lot of bad reports for suspending domains registered by users.

Favourite so far is Registerfly for .com .net .org, but 123-reg is favourite for UK domain names.

I've not used ukreg for UK domain names yet, but plan to...

I have moved all my UK domains over to 123-reg and have no complaints with them, their control panel is simple to use. I have no experience of their support as I have had no reason to use it. I also find their pricing quite reasonable.

For my other domains I use FXDomains who I think are either an offshoot of or a reseller of GoDaddy as their interface is the same. I went with them purely on a pricing basis.

I've had to use 123-reg support before - usually when administrating marketing client accounts. E-mail support is pretty fast, though phone support is a premium rate number. Only ever used it once, but good to know it's there if absolutely required.

What you need determines your registrar. There are some that do good deals when your buying in bulk (1000s) but you won't see those discounts on single purchases.

Not bad pricing there.

I was considering using 123-reg, do you charge your clients the same price or do you add a mark-up?

Regards

Pete

Hi Peter, and welcome to WHW.

As for charging clients - it's entirely up to you and how your business model works.

I think the reason why Godaddy is so trusted is overexposure. It's an easy name to remember, and sometimes that is the only thing needed for a concept to go viral.

Yeah, I'd say it's a good brand name. Simple catchy and loads of money to market it. I've heard they aren't the best though.

I trust GoDaddy a lot and I've been with them for years. I know they have a bad rep but they won't suspend a customer's domain unless they break the rules. And if its a mistake, you can fight it.

Once they threatened to shut down my domain but I fought back with their own policy. And I won. They're not all horror stories.

So what are GoDaddy's rules anyway? Are there any silly rules that get people into trouble easily?

BTW, I love the design on this registrar's site: http://www.gandi.net

Hrm. I also would like to know their rules as a "avoid accidentally doing this" lesson. I'd hate to accidentally jeopardize hard work.
