Default Best CMS

I find I use Wordpress a lot as a general CMS for content sites, where I want to just post up news and information (the news and reviews section of this site are powered by Wordpress).

I'm growing warm to phpWordPress, which is a different application entirely, and seems well suited for article publishing - only problem at present is that you can't assign multiple categories, as otherwise it would make for a superb piece of software for a news portal.

I've not used too many CMS's on a production basis but have played around with a few and have never found one that I am completely happy with, there is nothing out there that I can call perfect for how I would want to use it.

I think the closest I have come is mambo/joomla and I feel that joomla could mature into a very decent product indeed. Time will Tell.

I agree that it's very difficult to find one that does all - never played with Joomla, but it's something I may experiment with pretty soon.

My vote goes for Joomla

The add-on modules are endless and the community of developers is huge...

Tony, I would be interested in your views on the mambo/joomla split how do you see the two evolving?

Isn't Joomla just a complete overhaul and update of Mambo? I know that some of the same programmers worked on Joomla that started Mambo.. Regardless, for CMS, open source at least, my vote goes to Joomla as well. Just visit Joomla's forum and you'll see how many people are dedicated to both using it and making it work with every piece of software out there. You can implement everything from OS commerce to live ebay update modules into your site. It can only go up with that many people working to make it better.

1 vote Joomla.

I personally think Mambo is dead in the water, most of the drive and talent that made it what it was went over to Joomla...

The one thing that is going to happen soon is that anyone running an old Mambo site will HAVE TO upgrade to Joomla, it won't be long before the 2 codes are incompatible.

I tried Joomla when it was Mambo. I found it difficult to set up. Same with Drupal.
Drupal was easier to set up, but modding it seemed difficult for me as I dont know PHP.

Wordpress is by far the easiest to use

i would vote for ' Joomla' as using it you can add many extra modules and components which will enhance the value of your website. It has much more functionality than any other CMS available.

Joomla provides following services :
# Dynamic form builders
# Business or organizational directories
# Document management
# image and multimedia galleries
# E-commerce and shopping cart engines
# Forums and chat software
# Calendars
# Blogging software
# Directory services
# Email newsletters
# Data collection and reporting tools
and many more.....

It seems that the most popular CMS at the moment is Joomla (formally known as Mambo) and followed closely by Drupal. It is a great way to build a large site.
