Angelfire

Have used in the past and would recommend to many new people starting with websites. It allows you to make very simple/nice looking sites withing 5 minutes. And those that know HTML can just switch to their "advanced" mode. Yes there is advertising, but you can choose pop-up or banners. And since most people have pop-up blockers the ad's don't cause to much trouble.

I think that that is a brilliant idea.

It's good for basic hosting but the fact that it doesn't allow direct linking to images is REALLY annoying. I hate that.

used to be good, back in the day...i don't 100% get what ninikins is talking about, but i used to love using advanced mode instead of working locally and then using ftp.

I think ninikins means that you cannot store images on Angelfire and then link to them from elsewhere on the internet - forum posts etc

ohk. that's what i thought he meant. well, of course they don't allow that. they never have. it would be a huge bandwidth drain and they wouldn't make any ad revenue from it.

and yes, they do force site ads. i had them set to pop-ups, though, and pop-up blockers these days handle those nicely.

I don't like browsing to Angelfire sites. At least with freeservers you used to be able to choose ads in blocks above and below your content. I have always considered angelfire to be too spammy for my tastes. Even if my popup blocker is working well, it still seems somewhat unprofessional no matter how good the content is.

I hosted with angelfire for about a day. I hated it even while looking at my own page.
