Default 1 and 1

I am in the process of finally releasing my site, and was recommended to use 1and1.com as a host. Any thoughts, good or bad about them?

I have seen many sites with surfers complaining for both hosting and domain names under 1&1.

I have not tried myself so I could not agree or disagree with those horror stories found doing a Google research.

Thanks Mastermind, I'll do some more research. Is there a host recommended by you or others on this board? I have to remind you guys that I am in the US and would like a "local" host.

1&1? Ouch!

Awful service. Would never use them for anything remotely important.

I'm very pleased with Servage hosting, however the servers are located in Denmark and Germany.

If your want to try local service, I have good memories from some sites I tried in the past, and left because my need of webspace, resources, and host literarlly tons of domains names.

Turnkey Resellers <<< this is good, but reseller hosting only.
www.rapidVSP <<< in Florida but servers in NY. Affordable VPS and dedicated servers.
www.ucvhost <<< this is very cheap, specially Windows plans. Located in Asia but stable with servers in NY.
Netfirms, <<< this is located in Canada but offering 2 domains + hosting + true SSL for $10 the first year, promotional offer
cheapestwebhosting.biz <<< another good hosting headquartered in Australia but with servers at The Planet, USA
www.mphosting.net <<< In the Netherlands, but servers at the Planet and excellent support service.
ION Hosting <<< In Delaware, good hosting service but avoid take a domain free deal... what a pain to renew/get it back.

Special mention: hostingzoom.com and resellerzoom.com, in Texas
Good service and support, but some limitations unless you get a fully featured package.

I use 1&1, havn't had any problems, few things they could improve:

1. Support respose time, they probz have a lot of customers, but would be nice to get things done quicker than 48 Hours.

2. Releasing wasn't the easyest of things, for a start you have to login to a contract acount, which is a diff control panel, but have to unlock domains from the first.

Overall, there pricing is good on most domains, and for general things like DNS updates it is easy.

Well that's just it. I never see anything average about them. I either hear awesome things about them, or horrible things about them. Nothing in the 80% middle window.

I find it not so good for you when you are in US. Actually, I have not use 1&1 but I know the some of its service result. This is slower as others.
