Cisco TrustSec Fibre Channel Link Encryption
Cisco is now targeting customers that have high data security concerns and requirements, with its new encryption solution: The TrustSec Fibre Channel Link Encryption, which is hardware based.
Cisco announced the introduction of the solution on Monday as one of four enhancements that it plans to launch when it deploys open system SANs and IBM system z mainframes in its data centres.
Each enhancement is aimed at accelerating data back-up and the data loss recovery processes, as well as generally enhancing security.
One enhancement outside of the Link Encryption is the Cisco XRC Acceleration which was developed with aid from IBM.
The purpose of this solution is to increase the speed of data that travels over WAN so that bandwidth consumption is reduced.
According to Cisco this solution will eliminate the need to use multiple channel extensions.
Also announced was the Cisco Input/Output Accelerator which is fabric application that is SAN based.
The Input/Output Accelerator is aimed at reducing the time it takes to complete disaster recovery solutions and allows for faster flexible data back-up.
Also, Cisco improved its SAN Fabric Manager which can now hold 15,000 devices and federates a maximum of ten nodes.
Vice President of the Data Centre Switching Technology Group at Cisco, Rajiv Ramaswami, said that as the MDS family of Cisco products is a large part of their data centre portfolio, Cisco will continue to look for new ways to improve the services to increase customer service and results.
