Rackspace Datacentre goes down after car crash
Due to a loss in power in the afternoon yesterday, many Rackspace Hosting hosted websites went down for approximately 45 minutes.
Rackspace reported that it was having an electrical issue at its Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) data centre at 4:30 Eastern time.
Although power was back in place by 5pm, it took the company time to manually restore its servers, which did not automatically restart upon the power restoration.
It additionally went down against at 6:11pm and was restored again at 7:01pm due to the generator issues at the Dallas Centre.
The Rackspace Cloud also reported that several sites with SSL encryption were experiencing further delays in being redeployed.
An updated blog from the company reported that the power problems were due to infrastructure issues and that the Dallas centre is once again stable and UPS unites were serviced and checked.
Currently the company is checking its generators.
The company also said that although only one of the global data centres out of nine were affected, they apologise for the fact any customers were disrupted and after the system is fully restored will take measures to ensure the Dallas centre is reliable in the future.
The Dallas data centre is the largest out of the nine global centres with 144,000 sq ft of space.
The last reported service disruption experienced by Rackspace Hosting was in 2007 after a vehicle ran into a power transformer resulting in a power outage that affected a broad range of websites.
The power was shut off for the area by public officials.
