Freenet AG to sell off Statro
Freenet AG reportedly is going to sell Statro, its webhosting subsidiary, for anywhere from 320 to 420 million Euros, according to various sources.
Freenet spokesmen refused to comment but according to analysts at the Landesbank Baden-Wuerttembeg, it should fetch at least EUR240 million, if not more.
The analysts also guessed that United Internet AG would purchase Strato.
Freenet acquired a mobile unit in 2008 and ended up with a debt that totalled in excess of one billion euro.
It has now decided to focus its business on the mobile carrier and other mobile internet developments.
Thus, in order to reduce its debt the company is selling off its broadband business to United Internet, which prompts the suspicion that Strato will be sold as well.
