Avid Technology is launching its high-performance, next-generation storage disk arrays.

The Avid VideoRAID SR and the Avid® VideoRAID® ST systems, are intended to provide a combination of cost-effective Serial Advanced Technology Attachment, aka SATA, drive technology, and confidence boosting, fail-safe data protection to provide a viable back up against a disk drive failure, as well as real-time performance.

As opposed to other available RAID solutions that are often of no use when re-building a drive, the VideoRAID systems can assist clients to sustain the fast pace of creation of digital content by continuous and full data protection, while still allowing for the background rebuilding of drives.

Clients can also take benefit from playback in real-time with either one or two streams of uncompressed HD from as little as eight VideoRAID drives.

Avid can also offer VideoRAID ST and SR clients a 36 month extended warranty on enclosures as well as drive mechanisms, allowing for the replacement or exchange of components free of charge.

The ST offers a 5-drive tower while the SR can provide a 16-drive rack mount design.

The VideoRAID ST/SR disk arrays are capable of supporting a wide selection of editing systems, including the exiting new Symphony™ Nitris® ,Media Composer®, and NewsCutter® systems.

In addition it can support many third-party apps, though the industry-standard Serial Attached SCSI , known as SAS, interconnect.

These systems give protection of uniformity via the implementation of Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks, known as RAID, which is capable of handling numerous streams of uncompressed SD and HD media with a volume that ranges from 2.5TB right up to 16TB.

New improved Features of the VideoRAID ST/SR

The storage configurations of the VideoRAID ST/SR offer a good number of innovative benefits and features for clients, which include:

• Safeguards data – real-time parity which surpasses existing RAID safeguards by allowing systems to carry on operating with full functions with no loss of data. Clients will now have the capability of continuing to work as normal during drive failures, without enduring the loss of any data/media and without the need for immediately replacing the drive.

• Drive rebuild with full performance – the VideoRAID ST /SR removes the expenses that can result from system downtime by assisting clients systems to be have complete functionality while the rebuild process of failed drives is completed. Once this is done, the VideoRAID goes back to full data protection mode.

• Flexibility of configuration – clients can now opt to configure the systems to their own specific requirements by choosing a suitable drive capacity, with either the 5 or 16-drive models, and either one or two arrays that can be supported per CPU. These range from 2.5TB up to 16TB.

• SR models offer redundant power supplies – with healthy, load-sharing power supplies, clients will benefit from additional protection for their system, while benefiting from a lack of interruption with just one power supply.

• Removable power supplies, controllers, and drives – in-the-field replacement of all components is simple, making service quick and easy – giving maximum uptime.

• Highly compatible with Avid software and editing systems – clients can enjoy the benefits of increased productivity that is a result of strenuous testing of the VideoRAID ST and SR.
