LeaseWeb Utilises Cisco CRS-1 Platform

Web hosting provider LeaseWeb announced on Thursday that it is set to reorganize its global hosting network after installing two Cisco CRS-1s for approximately $2.4 million.

The company says the two Cisco CRS-1s will make the network infrastructure more hierarchical and scalable and allow LeaseWeb to enlarge its hosting network to a capability of 1900 gigabits per second.

The Cisco CRS-1 is a carrier routing system that offers unremitting system operation, service flexibility and system endurance and is powered by Cisco IOS XR software for an always-on operation while scaling system capacity up to 92 Tbps.

“To date the volume of our data traffic has doubled or done better than that every year,” says Con Zwinkels, managing director of LeaseWeb. “If you calculate what this means for the future, right now we have 80 Gbps. It will be 160 a year from now. The required capacity will be 320 Gbps the year after that, and we will be close to 1.3 Terabits in a couple of years. We were unable to guarantee the growth potential with the current network structure but with the acquisition of the new Cisco CRS-1 platform, we can now realize that growth capacity.”

LeaseWeb says it decided to acquire two CRS-1s since this will permit it to offer a more dependable uptime guarantee as well as preserve its service level agreements with customers to an even greater degree.
