Brazilian Portal UOL Acquires Digiweb

March 4, 2008 · Print This Article

Last week, Brazil’s largest media portal and Internet company UOL announced that it had purchased Web hosting and dedicated server provider Digiweb, making UOL the country’s third-largest provider of Web hosting services.

The company’s announcement didn’t stipulate a Digiweb, although it appears that rather than the very large Irish hosting provider, or the very small Michigan-based host, the Digiweb concerned in this case is, logically, the Brasil-based Digiweb.

The home page of that company’s website contains some of UOL’s markings, and a pop-up window with an announcement that appears to concern the purchase of Digiweb’s customers by UOL.

Digiweb will continue responsibility for operation and customer service, with the additional support of UOL’s team and infrastructure. The company’s clients will now have access to UOL content.

According to UOL, the service of Digiweb customers will not be affected in any way during the transition.
