Smartbunker Facility Earthquake Resistant

March 2, 2008 · Print This Article

UK managed hosting and carbon data center supplier Smartbunker announced on Wednesday that its facility has demonstrated itself to be earthquake proof, following an earthquake that hit the east coast of the UK on Wednesday morning.

The earthquake, whose epicenter measured 5.3 on the Richter scale, struck in the early hours of Wednesday under 30 miles from Smartbunker. The company’s data center is situated at an ex-NATO command bunker in the Lincolnshire Wolds.

Management systems at the data center discovered that the function of its IT systems was entirely unaffected by the natural disaster.

Kelly Smith, managing director of Smartbunker stated “The facility was designed and constructed to be shock resistant to counter the effects of a nuclear blast. We could barely have been closer to an earthquake whose effects were felt as far away as Amsterdam, yet the operation of the data centre was completely unaffected. We promise all of our customers 100 percent guaranteed uptime. This event lends that promise its ringing endorsement.”
