Open source Web application framework DotNetNuke announced on Friday that it has released DotNetNuke version 4.8.1 to correspond with the official launch of Visual Studio 2008.

The latest version of DotNetNuke’s product provides native support for Visual Studio 2008, Windows Server 2008 and IIS 7.0, says the company.

Shaun Walker, co-founder and chief architect of DotNetNuke stated “DotNetNuke is the leading open source enterprise Web platform for the Microsoft .NET technology stack. As a result we felt it was critical for us to embrace Microsoft’s latest server platform and development tools immediately so that we can continue to maintain our competitive advantage and provide the maximum benefit to our many community stakeholders.”

DotNetNuke says this release persists in offering backward compatibility with Visual Studio 2005 but furthermore provides the autonomy and flexibility for customers to shift instantly to the next generation Microsoft technology platform. Along with the multi-target version support offered by Visual Studio 2008, developers will have the capacity to write applications that work with multiple versions of the .NET Framework, including versions 2.0, 3.0, and 3.5, says the company.
