Microsoft Provides Server 2008 Webinar

Software monolith Microsoft announced on Thursday it will host a webinar to discuss how Windows Server 2008 software can be utilised to construct dedicated servers and appliances. Planned for February 28, the webinar will exhibit “Server Core,” a new facet that minimizes the footprint of the operating system.

The live event will run from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. PST, and will tutor viewers on “key differentiators from earlier Windows Server operating systems, and the resultant benefits to the embedded space,” says Microsoft. The new server software assists to provide a less significant footprint, virtualization, in addition to new management and security functionality, says the company.

The company lately released to manufacturing Windows Server 2008, which is positioned for worldwide launch on February 27. The new solution presents a new Server Core installation option that excludes the Windows shell, providing a command prompt instead. It includes only file server, DHCP server, DNS server, media services and Active Directory support.

Microsoft in addition announced the release of its “Windows Essential Server Solutions,” a suite of products built on Windows Server 2008. The package includes Windows Small Business Server 2008 and Windows Essential Business Server 2008.
