Tucows Discloses Domain Name Assets

Internet services wholesaler Tucows announced on Wednesday that up until February 14, the company had in excess of 150,000 domain names in its private domain name collection. Incorporated in these domain name assets are 39,000 surnames, 22,000 brandable names and 88,000 direct navigation names.

Additionally included in Tucows’ private domain name portfolio are in excess of 1,000 “Gems,” domain names that are considered to have the uppermost potential value like Amnesty.com, Corked.com, DogBreeders.com, Jewellers.com, Ouzo.com and Stylist.com.

Elliot Noss, president and CEO of Tucows stated “Companies, both large and small, are willing to invest in high-quality domain names to ensure visibility of their brands and steady traffic to their websites. Over the past two years, Tucows has built a portfolio of domain names that we view as one of the best in the world. We have sold thousands of these names to date, and we will continue to pursue sales of domain names from our portfolio both individually and as bundles.”

To maximise gain value from the domain names, Tucows says its portfolio team tactically sells its names via live and silent auction, while some are bundled and sold or leased separately to interested parties. Others wind up being sold as premium names through the company’s network of resellers.

Earlier this month, Tucows improved its email service, providing customers with the choice of using the spam and virus filtering portion of the service in combination with their current email infrastructure.
