Internet infrastructure outsourcer FORTRESS ITX has added three new first-class carriers to its network, which includes Sprint, Global Crossing and Level3, it announced on Friday.

The company, serving a total to six premium carriers on the company network, has added Gigabit connections for all three providers. The three new premium carriers join current carriers, Savvis, Telia and NLayer.

The FortressITX network runs on its own dark fibre ring, connecting two redundant POPs in Equinix’s 111th NYC in New York City and 165 Halsey in New Jersey. Each fibre leg can manage the whole of the network’s traffic in the event of breakdown, while each leg is capable of being upgraded to make available transport capacities up to 320Gbps, totalling out to 640Gbps of accessible transport capacity.

The nucleus consists of Dual Cisco 6509 SUP720 Routers, fully meshed to multiple aggregation switches for the greatest uptime.

As an Internet infrastructure outsourcing partner for enterprises, FORTRESS ITX provides a variety of services, including management of Web applications, servers and databases in addition to solutions for security, streaming media, network bandwidth and colocation facility needs.
