Web hosting provider Macquarie Hosting a division of Macquarie Telecom has signed a three year agreement to host Habbo, it announced on Thursday. Habbo, a teen social networking website accessed by more than 2.9 million Australian registered users.

In facilitating increase network speeds and improved user experience for its Australian website members, Macquarie Hosting will provide Habbo with a high-availability, fully-managed hosting solution.

Habbo completed a comprehensive assessment of diverse hosting providers before deciding on Macquarie Hosting for its established experience and its capacity to provide around the clock, low latency availability of Web 2.0 social networking applications.

Habbo’s Australian website and critical applications for the Australian market were formerly hosted in the US, causing latency problems and local customer dissatisfaction. By hosting with Macquarie, Habbo guarantees 100 percent continuance and availability, which is crucial to the social networking site’s capability to entertain and secure its Australian members.

Aidan Tudehope, managing director of hosting for Macquarie Telecom stated “Social networking communities are booming, fuelled by faster broadband access technologies that allow content-rich sites to be downloaded and viewed quickly. The local popularity of Habbo’s teen networking community demonstrates the enormous potential for marketers, advertisers and corporations to use this innovative and cost effective medium to communicate with the teen demographic.”

Macquarie announced last month it partnered with Sun Microsystems as its favored server provider in an attempt to decrease the energy expenditure in its data center and become more environmentally friendly.
