Pipex Buyer Selection Imminent

ZDNet reports that telecommunications provider Pipex is close to selecting a purchaser for its Web hosting and business services divisions.

Tiscali purchased Pipex’s broadband and phone divisions last year. Rebranded as Freedom4, the telecommunications provider also sold a portion of its wireless division to Intel..

The Financial Times reported last Wednesday that Pipex is now ready to settle on who will succeed an auction for its outstanding Web hosting and business services divisions. Three bidders are reportedly being seriously considered including private-equity group Oakley Capital, telecommunications firm Thus Group and German company United Internet.

Pipex did not retort to a request for comment on the Financial Times report.

Earlier this month, a division of Pipex Communications, UK domain registrar and Web hosting provider 123-reg announced it launched a new range of dedicated servers
