Rackspace mixes up customer emails

December 10, 2007 · Print This Article

Got a strange email from Rackspace last week - an email addressed to me, posted to my email address, acknowledging my order for three servers.

Only, I didn’t order any. I’ve never hosted at Rackspace, and have no plans to.

Was this a fraud attempt on my credit card, or some kind of phishing attempt?

I contacted Rackspace immediately, warning them not to process the order.

A couple of days later they replied stating that they didn’t mean to send that email, and to disregard.

I’ve got to admit, it’s surprising that Rackspace could make such a simple error in their sales process.

Perhaps its me who made the error, though - I just turned down 3 new servers for free. :)
